let me tell you about why homestuck changed my life

Lots of people in the fandom have explained why Homestuck has influenced them in some way or another, and I think it’s amazing.
And I want to share my story:

My boyfriend and I are both Homestucks who met through work and started talking because of Homestuck and a bunch of other nerd shit (pokemon, MLP, etc.).

On Friday of ACen 2013, I received a special surprise that changed my life. I was Sollux Captor on Friday, and I was just roaming around the con like usual. My boyfriend left momentarily with a friend and then I came to the Homestuck photoshoot to meet up with them again. When I arrived, I couldn’t find him anywhere, but then I noticed an Eridan walk up to me, get down on one knee, (punch me in the face so my dentures fell out) and asked to hate-marry me.

That Eridan was my boyfriend.

He has never cosplayed before, but decided to propose to me this way because he knew that I would love it and knew that Homestuck is special for the both of us. He worked hard with support from our friends to work on the cosplay and get everything set up for the surprise.

I have gained so much from this fandom. I have amazing friends involved in the fandom who have helped me grow and I have gained a family because of them. I have developed my skills as a cosplayer, writer, roleplayer and have tapped into a new sense of creativity.. Now I’m happily engaged to my fiancee where it all (sort of) began with Homestuck.

Homestuck is more than just a fandom to me, it helped change me for the better and I am so lucky and amazed at what I’ve gained through this fandom. Some people may not understand why Homestuck is “more than just a webcomic”, but I certainly do.
